Hi, I’m Vanessa Jones
With extensive experience in all areas of marketing including copywriting, strategy, email marketing, social media, public relations, SEM and SEO, from inception to implementation and reporting, I have outlined below my experience and skillset and how they align with this role.
In addition to running my own business as a copywriter and digital marketer, I have previously worked as a marketing manager for an NFP, marketing agencies and a tertiary education company, a publicist, a marketing coordinator and more. I have a myriad of relevant skills and over 17 years of experience in the marketing space and am well-versed with working with NFP, B2B, B2C clients and agencies.
Currently, I am contracted as a Marketing Manager (casual) for a marketing agency which sees me deliver a range of duties, including various copywriting tasks, client/account management, strategy (overarching, social media, email marketing, SEO, content and more), Google Ads, social media creation and implementation, email marketing, SEO, website creation, content capture and direction (eg project management of film and photography shoots etc), liaising with external suppliers, and other creative campaign implementation.
What’s more, I was an Australian Content Writer for Pinterest (contractor) and the former Content Manager for Wall Art Prints (contractor), an international eCommerce business where I oversaw, managed and created all SEO content and strategy which focused on homewares and interior design.
As mentioned, I run my own business, Jones the Writer Copywriting Services, in which I have been providing copywriting, SEO, proofreading and marketing services for more than seventeen years for some of Australia’s most recognisable brands, including Mitsubishi Motors, Cashflow Manager, Australian Institute of Business, Flinders University, TAFE, Southern Cross Care, Depends underwear, Alisa and Lysandra (from The Block), Adelaide City Council, Rivergum Homes, Harbourtown Shopping Centres, SAGE Automation and many more.
COPYWRITING
As one of Australia’s most sought-after copywriters, I have written copy for a myriad of valuable mediums, including websites, EDM, tone of voice documents, social media platforms, ebooks, whitepapers, lead gen assets, case studies, SEO copy, brochures, long-form editorial and magazines, blogs, press ads, media releases, advertorials, plus more. Previously, I was contracted as a writer, editor and proofreader for several iconic hardcopy and digital publications, such as Unique Rundle Mall, City SA, Burnside Village magazine, Look in Live in, WYZA, The Guardian and more.

SEO AND CONTENT STRATEGY
As I have been professionally writing for the web for nearly two decades, I know how to write well to ensure people read past the headline, click the link, share content, and appease web crawlers without sacrificing high-quality content. I am experienced and adept at writing for SEO purposes and have a solid understanding of how to appeal to the latest changes in Google’s algorithm updates.
I have a thorough understanding of front and backend SEO and provide onsite optimisation and SEO writing services to many clients across various industries, including:

Idea creation and planning to target tangible outcomes, particularly through content, is a passion of mine. This experience and my strengths in strategising content and analysing the performance of such content will ensure long-term success when expanding your content to meet a brand’s growth goals.
From February 2018 to June 2022, I was contracted (freelance) to Wall Art Prints— an international eCommerce business— as their Content Manager. I planned the year’s content, worked closely with their technical SEO professional, wrote and uploaded the content (to WordPress) aligned with the sales plan, provided monthly reports, and attended regular team meetings. In addition, I rewrote and repurposed old content to improve SEO and content goals.
Given that the product was images, the content always required image-heavy articles, and continuously coming up with fresh and exciting ways of soft-selling these images was a unique challenge that I enjoyed.
Working closely with an acoustics engineering firm, I created a content writing strategy and implemented high-quality content regularly. In the January to March 2022 quarter, their visibility rose 133%, 15 of their high volume target keywords were on the first page of Google, and their Google Analytics goal completion/conversion (phone calls and emails) increased by 20%. GOOGLE ADS
I love setting up Google Ads for clients, in alignment with their goals and monitoring and optimising throughout the month. Providing reports at their designated reporting period (monthly, quarterly and annually) is a highlight for me as I get to demonstrate their ROI as well as the flow-on effect their ads have on SEO and driving traffic to their site
The following stats are in relation to a recent successful example of my SEO and Google Ads client work, for an ecommerce retailer (the sell ebikes and escooters both online and instore). I started implementing their SEO as of April 2024, and these results are for May 2024 to Jan 2025. This was all on a very basic monthly budget.
- 4668% increase in web traffic
- 2% increase in revenue
- $23,584.62 revenue from Google Ads ($13k lifetime spend)
- $95,660.11 revenue from organic search results
- 4837M impressions from Google Ads
I also manage, set up and optimise Google Ads for NFP (utilising the GA grant of $10,000USD per month) clients.
EMAIL MARKETING
I am a highly skilled email marketing specialist with expertise in list curation, management and growth, segmentation, campaign creation, welcome sequences, e-newsletters, and A/B split testing. I have successfully developed and executed high-converting email marketing strategies for eCommerce brands, RTOs, NFPs, and other businesses, ensuring maximum engagement, retention, and revenue growth.
I am proficient in platforms such as Klaviyo, Mailchimp, and Campaign Monitor, and I leverage customer insights and data-driven approaches to craft personalised, high-impact email content that drives conversions. One of my standout successes in email marketing was taking an eCommerce client from $0 to $12,000 in recovered abandoned cart sales within a few months by implementing a refined, automated email sequence. Through segmentation, strategic copywriting, and conversion-optimised messaging, I helped re-engage lost customers, significantly increasing revenue and customer lifetime value. My ability to fine-tune campaigns through data analysis and A/B testing ensures that each email delivers measurable results and ROI.
SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING
I have managed the social media marketing strategy, ad campaigns, organic content creation and implementation, and community management for NFP and commercial clients, ensuring active engagement by responding to comments, tracking engagement metrics, and optimising content to increase reach and interactions. and have worked with some significant brands, including Victim Support Service, Alisa and Lysandra, Patch Theatre, Original Campus, Southern Cross Care, Fit Foods 4 You, Annersley College, Foodbank SA, Australian Mushroom Growers Association and more.
I adeptly undertake the creation of content from inception, provide comprehensive briefs to videographers, curate imagery, and consistently generate compelling and innovative content. As well as capture content myself and edit either in iMovie or CapCut and capitalise on social media trends whilst retaining clear brand aesthetics and parameters.
My approach is always aligned with overarching annual and quarterly marketing strategy.
MARKETING
As Marketing Manager for SA Writers Centre, I managed all the digital marketing as well as the traditional communications, including newsletters, blog content, and customer engagement strategies to build a strong and engaged community., marketing and public relations for the organisation, plus extensive event management. I created annual and monthly marketing strategies and was responsible for implementing the rollout of these plans and their activities in keeping with the branding. These activities focused heavily on social media marketing, community building, email marketing campaigns and traditional PR as effective and low-cost ways of communicating and creating sales.
Over 2014, workshop sales increased by $50,000 (this was monumental for a then-struggling arts organisation) as a result of my marketing activities and all social media platforms and channels grew exponentially and had terrific engagement.
